Dimensional color & grey blending

Starts at $120 · 2–3.5 hours

Rich single-process color by Cait Bongiorno, hair stylist in Essex, MD

Dimensional color is depth and light worked together: lowlights, fine highlights, and glosses layered so your color has movement instead of sitting flat.

Not everyone wants to be blonde. This is for rich brunettes, warm coppery tones, and anyone whose silver is starting to come in and wants it to look intentional.

Grey blending vs. grey coverage

Flat grey coverage puts you on a three-week root-touch-up clock. Blending does the opposite. Your silver becomes part of the pattern, softened with lowlights (darker pieces woven in) and brightened with fine highlights, so your roots come in gradual and the look holds for months.

For the brunettes

Dark hair shows off good work: hand-placed caramel ribbons, chocolate glosses, chestnut depth at the root. It’s subtle on purpose. Single color starts at $120, and dimension is added from there.

Good questions

What is grey blending?

Instead of flat all-over color that shows a stripe of roots in three weeks, grey blending works your silver into the color on purpose. Greys look like highlights, your roots come in soft, and you're not chained to a four-week root appointment.

I'm a brunette. Is color even worth it for me?

Yes. Dimension is what makes dark hair look glossy instead of flat. Soft ribbons of caramel or chestnut and a shade matched to your skin can completely change your hair without making you look highlighted.

What's a gloss and do I need one?

A gloss is a quick shine-and-tone treatment that refreshes your color and adds serious shine. Toners start at $30, and a root melt with toner (starts at $150) is the go-to refresh between bigger appointments.

Do you do vivids or fashion colors?

Yes. Fashion color can be added to a dimensional service, starting at $75. A ribbon of copper or pink without committing your whole head to it.

How low-maintenance is dimensional color really?

Most dimensional and grey-blending clients come in every 10 to 14 weeks. The placement works with your natural pattern, so the grow-out is part of the look.
